Retrospect is a forum for role-players intermediate and up. The roleplay is set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the 1930s. Times are hard for almost everyone with the economy in this state, and President Herbert Hoover is not helping. Many people are homeless, and even more don't have money. The country is in chaos.
However, things are not exactly as they appear. Hidden among the humans are creatures thought to only live within the pages of fiction. Many of the gangs known to cause problems are run by those creatures. They are even more violent than the people could ever have thought. Tension arises among the races as the world spirals into the Great Depression.

Train tracks cross through the northern part of the city. Cargo trains use them to haul supplies to some of the few remaining factories in this area, otherwise they make no stops. People are known to jump the trains and hide in the boxcars, although if you do so, just make sure you don't get caught or you'll get thrown off without the train stopping!
Large warehouses and factory buildings cloud the majority of the northern part of the city. The air is fairly dirty here thanks to the factories, and it is advised to avoid the water of Lake Michigan. Only a few of the factories remain in business, and those that are abandoned are used as shelter by some of the homeless who prefer to avoid the slums of downtown.
Located on a road just off Main Street is a soup kitchen run by a local church who receives donations from those who are willing enough to give up some of the food they have obtained. It runs twice a day and serves food to the poor and homeless for free, acting as a charity.
The alleyways of downtown are home to the majority of the homeless. They are filthy stretches set off from the main roads, covered in garbage. People crowd around barrels where fires are light for warmth in the chilly times of the year and beds are made of papers, or an old couch if you're lucky.
Along with the businesses that run down main street, there are many old apartment buildings. They're cheap to live in and you get what you pay for. Holes in the walls and windows create heavy drafts at times and the overall poor state of the buildings is only topped off by the alleys.
Milwaukee is a port city, so the Lakefront is generally a busy place, even in these hard times. The lake that touches the northern part is busy with ships, and the part along the lakefront is a place to come and relax. It can be easy to ignore the troubles of reality while watching children in the parks or walking down the beach.
One of the most important buildings in the south of Milwaukee is the free clinic. It is run by people who get a small sum of money from the government (and I mean small) to tend to those who cannot afford an actual doctor. It is a small building not far from downtown.
The suburbs look a bit better and the living conditions are higher than those of the apartments in downtown, although they cost a lot more in comparison. The alleyways through here are not as filled with the homeless as those downtown either.

Bear accidentally changed the colors of this cbox for her tiger roleplay site and instead of trying to find that site's original cbox, decided to just use this one. For that reason, it has been removed. Not like the site was active anyway.
